WhatsApp 'crash code' causes app to crash indefinitely - how to spot it
With over two billion active users, WhatsApp is without a doubt one of the most popular apps around the world.
But if you use WhatsApp, make sure you’re on the lookout for a new ‘crash code’ that’s circulating.
Worryingly, the crash code can cause your app to crash indefinitely, with the only solution appearing to be deleting and reinstalling the app entirely.
This could leave you without access to your entire WhatsApp chat history.
WABetaInfo first reported the crash code, having been alerted by several alarmed WhatsApp users.
It explained: “A contact might send a message that contains many weird characters. If you read them entirely, they have no sense, but WhatsApp might interpret the message in a wrong way.
“Sometimes WhatsApp is also unable to render the message totally, because its structure is so weird: the combination of these characters create a situation where WhatsApp isn’t able to process the message, determining an infinite crash.
