Netflix lets non-subscribers watch content like Stranger Things for free

Streaming giant Netflix has let non-subscribers watch some of its original content for free.

The service has made these titles available through a web browser page here.

These will not be accessible via Smart TVs or the Netflix App but are available through browsers on your devices.

Among the free original content are the first episodes of hit Netflix shows such as Stranger Things and Elite, along with full movies such as Sandra Bullock film Bird Box.

The free content will be available in more than 200 countries, according to OnlyTech.

Netflix has been one of the few companies to benefit from the Covid-19 pandemic with an additional 25.86 million subscribers signing up during the first half of 2020.

This is almost as many as their number of new subscribers for the whole of 2019.

The first episodes of  series that Netflix will make available are sci-fi drama Stranger Things, raunchy teen drama Elite, animated comedy series Boss Baby, true crime drama series When They See Us, reality dating show Love is Blind, documentary series Our Planet, and US sitcom Grace and Frankie.

Meanwhile, films that will be free to watch are Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston’s hit comedy Murder Mystery, Sandra Bullock’s frightening thriller Bird Box, and Oscar-nominated drama The Two Popes, which stars Jonathan Pryce and Anthony Hopkins as two members of the Catholic clergy caught up in some serious and funny debating.

Pope Benedict and the future Pope Francis must find common ground in The Two Popes

Netflix previously told Fox News: “We’re looking at different marketing promotions to attract new members and give them a great Netflix experience.”

A source also told the broadcaster than Netflix is hoping to give non-subscribers a change to get a taste of the content they offer in the hope they do subscribe.

Meanwhile, one of Netflix’s most popular shows, Lucifer, had to make some changes to its fifth season finale following the unexpected news that the show would get an additional sixth run to finish the series.

Netflix’s Bird Box was a huge hit upon its release

The second half of the fifth season is due later this year and amongst the episodes will be a musical instalment.

Star Tom Ellis said that “the beauty of it was that we found the perfect reason for it, and not only made it service the episode, in terms of where the music comes from.”

We can’t wait!
