Pep Guardiola set to miss most of Man City’s pre-season due to quarantine requirements after being pictured in Barcelona
Pep Guardiola looks set to miss most of Manchester City’s pre-season due to quarantine requirements.
The City manager has been pictured on holiday in Barcelona and it is understood he will return to the UK early next week.
Under current UK government policy on travel to Spain, Guardiola must self-isolate for 14 days upon his return as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
While the Premier League season begins in two weeks’ time, Man City do not feature in the first gameweek due to their recent involvement in European competition.
Their first game of the season is in three weeks’ time, away at Wolves on September 21.
Meanwhile, the bulk of City’s players are not returning to training until the week after next due to international commitments.
Guardiola is set to miss that week unless the government’s rules change.
Spanish outlet El Chiringuito claims Guardiola could meet Lionel Messi for a face-to-face meeting during his time in the city.
Messi has been linked with a stunning move to the Etihad after handing in a transfer request to Barcelona.
It is understood there has already been a conversation between Guardiola and Messi regarding a potential move, although City would need to fork out around £1.4m-a-week.
