The major changes that WWE made to important Ric Flair and Randy Orton segment from RAW
A week ago on RAW, Randy Orton broke away from Ric Flair.
The reborn Legend Killer punted Flair – or so we were led to believe while the lights went out – to bring their alliance to an end because the 16-time world champion got him into a match with Kevin Owens.
Orton will face Drew McIntyre at SummerSlam this Sunday for the WWE title and the way he dispatched Flair, a man in his 70s, angered the Scot.
The promo that led to Orton turning on Flair was a very powerful and personal one.
Orton talked about how Flair was a junkie for the spotlight and he just couldn’t let go, but Flair countered, saying that Orton meant the world to him and he was better than he ever was.
According to Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful, that promo was a lot longer than what the viewers actually saw.
“Orton’s promo was much more than what was actually broadcast, with multiple people in attendance saying there were ‘minutes’ of material that didn’t end up getting used,” Fightful reported.
It was also said that the reason the material was edited out was due to time concerns with the show as a whole rather than the quality of the promo.
Orton now challenges McIntyre this Sunday looking to win his 14th world title in WWE, and he’s easily McIntyre’s strongest challenger to date – at least since Seth Rollins at Money in the Bank.
McIntyre has really ascended to become a focal point of the company since winning the belt, but Orton has been absolutely red-hot in his psychotic heel persona.
With the Payback pay-per-view set for just the week after SummerSlam, many believe that Orton will cheat to beat McIntyre at SummerSlam and they’ll rematch the following week.
Orton’s plans are very much to face Edge again once the Rated-R Superstar returns from his torn tricep injury – could their trilogy match be for the title?
