Boxing news: Vasyl Lomachenko vs Teofimo Lopez deal agreed for mouthwatering unification fight
Vasyl Lomachenko and Teofimo Lopez have now agreed terms to meet in a highly anticipated unification fight targeted for October 17.
Ukraine’s WBA, WBO and WBC ‘franchise’ lightweight champion will get the opportunity to secure the final belt he hasn’t yet won at 135lbs.
America’s Lopez claimed that elusive IBF title by knocking out Richard Commey last December.
Despite being just 22 years of age, he subsequently called out the pound-for-pound star and they have been in negotiations since.
It was reported that Lomachenko initially agreed his side of the deal for a $3.5million purse.
However, Lopez was not happy with the $1.2m he was offered.
Now, according to The Athletic, Loma has agreed to take less money ($3.25m) to make the fight happen.
It’s claimed Lopez could now earn up to $1.5m.
“We came to an agreement,” Lopez’s manager David McWater confirmed to BoxingScene.
“It was a complicated deal but we made it. Bob Arum and I have been talking and we finally got it done.”
October 17 is the target date for the fight inside Top Rank’s MGM Grand ‘bubble’ in Las Vegas. October 24 is also possible.
