What time is PlayStation 5 event? How to watch live from the UK tonight

Sony is hosting an event tonight, during which it will reveal the first games to be available for the upcoming PlayStation 5.

The Future of Gaming event will be streamed online at 21:00 BST tonight, and could also be used to officially reveal the PS5’s hardware for the first time.

Sony Interactive Entertainment president and chief executive Jim Ryan said tonight’s event will show games which “represent the best in the industry from innovative studios that span the globe”.

“There are few things as exciting as the launch of a new console. While this road to launch has been a bit… different, we are as thrilled as ever to bring you with us on this journey to redefine the future of video games,” Mr Ryan said.

The Future of Gaming event will start at 21:00 BST tonight. According to Sony, the digital showcase will run for just over an hour.

Sony will stream the event on its YouTube channel here.

This is the first time that a PlayStation event has taken place entirely virtually.

Sid Shuman, Senior Director at SIE Content Communications, said: “A lack of physical events has given us an amazing opportunity to think differently and bring you on this journey with us, and hopefully, closer than ever before.”

Mirror Online will also be covering the event live tonight, so make sure you check back in then!

If you do watch the event, Sony advises you use headphones.

Mr Shuman explained: “It’s also best if you watch while wearing headphones, if you can — there’s some cool audio work in the show, and it might be harder to appreciate if it’s pumped through your phone or laptop speakers.”

Sony has confirmed it will reveal the first games to be available for the upcoming PlayStation console.

Mr Ryan said: “I’m excited to share that we will soon give you a first look at the games you’ll be playing after PlayStation 5 launches this holiday.

“The games coming to PS5 represent the best in the industry from innovative studios that span the globe.

“Studios, both larger and smaller, those newer and those more established, all have been hard at work developing games that will showcase the potential of the hardware.”

Sony has yet to reveal the PS5 console itself, although it has shared images of a new white and black controller which will come with the device.

Our fingers are crossed that Sony gives us a first glimpse at the hardware tonight!
