‘F*** this s***’ – Dana White reacts to Conor McGregor’s retirement as he joins Jon Jones and Jorge Masvidal in quitting
Dana White revealed his frustrations at trying to host major sporting events during the global pandemic in an uncharacteristically stressed post-fight press conference.
The UFC president was addressing the media at the UFC press scrum where, despite two spectacular knockouts and a brilliant performance by Amanda Nunes, the talk was all about Conor McGregor.
Just moments after Nunes’ unanimous decision victory over Felicia Spencer was confirmed, ‘The Notorious’ confirmed on social media he was planning to retire.
McGregor joins Jon Jones and Jorge Masvidal in threatening to walk away from the sport amid pay disputes, with the lack of fans seriously hampering the UFC’s finances.
No gate money and an inability to hold fights with international fighters until Fight Island is ready is hurting everyone in the pockets it seems.
However, despite all the speculation and confusion surrounding three of his top superstars, the 50-year-old was more than happy to remind the world that fighting is purely optional.
“So, I will remind everybody that we in a pandemic,” White said at the UFC 250 post-fight press conference.
“The world is a crazy place right now with the things that are going on and I think that everybody feels this right now.
“There’s no fans, you can’t travel the fights around and I think everybody is p***** off and confused.
“People have been locked up in their houses for three-and-a-half months, people are wearing masks, there are protests and riots – the list goes on and on.
“And listen; if you don’t think what I am doing right now is probably the hardest thing that I have ever done and if you don’t think that three times a day I throw my f****** hands up and I am ready to say ‘F*** this s***’.
“Believe me. And the amount of people that I have gunning at me right now is insane.
“But here we are, this is our fifth fight. No other sports are going right now, but us.
“And one of the beautiful things about this sport is; you don’t have to fight!”
