Andy Cole explains what made Sir Alex Ferguson ‘absolutely phenomenal’ as manager at Manchester United
Andy Cole has nothing but praise for Sir Alex Ferguson, the manager who helped guide him to several major honours during his time at Old Trafford.
While with the Red Devils, the striker claimed five Premier League titles, two FA Cups and the Champions League trophy in their 1998/99 treble-winning season.
Cole appeared on talkSPORT’s Up Front series – which airs Tuesday, June 9 at 7pm – to discuss his goalscoring career, including the impact Fergie had on him.
The 48-year-old explained: “He knew what I was as an individual.
“I think once managers understand what they’ve got in each individual, they get the best out of them.
“That’s exactly what they do.
“And Sir Alex Ferguson, with me he was phenomenal. Absolutely phenomenal.
“He knew what he wanted from me, he knew how to get the best out of me.
“He knew when I was up, he knew when I was down, he knew when I was in a good mood.
“He could judge each and every character every day and know how to get the best out of that individual. It’s phenomenal.
“Managers who used to challenge me, I have to laugh at myself.
“Because ultimately it didn’t matter how much you scream and shout at me.
“If I didn’t wanna give it for you, you can scream and shout all you like.
“So you’ve got to have another way to be able to deal with that situation.”
Up Front with Andy Cole will air in full on talkSPORT on Tuesday, June 9th at 7pm.
