When boxing cult hero Butterbean brutally knocked out Johnny Knoxville in US department store on hit show Jackass

Boxing ‘legend’ Butterbean was once filmed knocking out one of the noughties’ biggest TV stars stars in the middle of a department store in the United States.

However, it wasn’t the scandal it sounds, because that man was Johnny Knoxville and it was his hair-brained idea – of which there were many.

And when he invited one of boxing’s biggest heavyweights (which is, quite literally, true) to punch him in the face in the name of entertainment, it was never going to end well.

It was all part of Jackass, a TV show featuring grown skater-dude men doing stupid, dangerous and sometimes (very often) downright wrong stuff for our entertainment.

What started out as a bunch of idiots hurting themselves turned into a global phenomenon and became a significant part of 2000s culture.

And, despite their trademark ‘don’t try this at home’ disclaimer, it still inspired tons of copycat videos that littered the early years of YouTube.

Those were the days.

This, though, you really wouldn’t want to try at home, or even in a ring for that matter, as show creator, host and all-round fool Knoxville bit off more than he could chew against one of boxing’s biggest ever cult heroes – Eric ‘Butterbean’ Esch.

As part of 2002’s Jackass: The Movie, Knoxville invited the 30 stone juggernaut to punch him in the face in the middle of a US department store, to the horror of the poor woman behind the till.

They even had a ring-girl and another guy was acted as referee, announcer and bell ringer.

And, well, let’s just say the ‘fight’ didn’t last long against the American monster.

Butterbean weighed 426lbs for his final professional boxing fight – that’s a whopping 30.4 stone!

After quickly beating Knoxville to the floor, Butterbean then asked the host to give him his best shot (“Hit me once… there ya go!”) but the fighter just shrugged off the host’s measly punch, and then knocked Knoxville out cold with a brutal barrage of hits.

You can even hear Knoxville – who was left needing stitches in his head – ‘snoring’ when he was lying prone on the ground, which is actually the sound of him trying not to swallow his own tongue.

You can watch a clip of the ‘fight’ below.

And, as always, don’t try this at home folks!
