Premier League ‘offered chance to play remainder of season in Perth, Australia’

English agent Gary Williams has claimed he’s spoken to Premier League chiefs and presented them with the option of resuming the season in Perth, Australia.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, England’s top flight has been suspended since mid-March with those in charge now looking at ways to restart.

Williams – who lives in the Western Australian capital – has told SunSport he is in contact with the Australian government and Ministry for Sport.

He’s already received backing from the local Perth senator and so made his move and offered the option to the Premier League.

His proposal would see all 20 clubs fly out to Perth, isolate in their own hotels and then play games most likely behind closed doors.

Williams told SunSport: “I have had discussions with contacts at Premier League clubs and they like the idea.

“I have also spoken with government officials and they are enthusiastic. We are speaking again this week.

“Everybody is safe here. The government has lifted many restrictions.

“We are sitting round in groups of ten, we can walk around and the beaches are open. We have had four new cases in the last ten days.”

An unnamed club official reacted to the idea by saying: “We go on world tours in pre-season. This is no different. And the climate in Australia is ideal just now.”

In 2019, Manchester United played pre-season matches in Perth, with Chelsea appearing there the previous year.
