Newcastle bid for Daniele Rugani reported as Magpies chase defender signing in final week of summer transfer window
A formal Newcastle bid for Juventus defender Daniele Rugani has been reported in the Italian press.
The Magpies are chasing the signing of the 26-year-old centre-back and, on Wednesday evening, it was reported the Tynesiders would submit an offer for him either overnight or on Thursday morning.
Valencia have also been linked with Rugani, who is well down the pecking order at the Allianz Stadium under new Juve head coach Andrea Pirlo and is expected to leave before next week’s transfer deadline.
While Valencia only offered to sign Rugani on loan – a proposal Juventus are not keen on – Newcastle’s bid is alleged to be a loan with option to buy which is of much more interest to the Italian giants.
Alfredo Pedulla also claims Rennes and West Ham have been in the race for Rugani, though Newcastle have pushed ahead by submitting their formal offer.
Italy international Rugani was long considered one of the brightest defensive prospects in European football, building his reputation at Empoli and playing over 100 times for Juventus.

However, his game time has dwindled over the past year, and without a single appearance so far this season it appears the right time for Rugani to leave Italy.
Steve Bruce is on the hunt for a new central defensive recruit after Newcastle’s mixed start to the season, which has seen them beat West Ham, lose to Brighton and draw with Tottenham in the Premier League, and also reach the Carabao Cup quarter-finals with a penalty shootout defeat of Newport in the fourth-round.
