Manchester United in Ousmane Dembele talks after Federico Chiesa approach REJECTED, Luka Jovic ‘wants move’, Alex Telles delay explained
Manchester United have opened talks with Barcelona over Ousmane Dembele.
The Red Devils have left it late but have high hopes of making a marquee signing in the dying embers of the summer transfer window, albeit on loan, with the club now looking for alternatives for Jadon Sancho.
United tabled their final take-it-or-leave-it bid of around £90million for the England winger this week, but it was snubbed by Borussia Dortmund who are not interested in accepting anything less than their £100m-plus valuation.
The Old Trafford giants still want to bring Sancho back to the Premier League, with a return to sign him likely next summer, but are now on the hunt for a stopgap signing in the meantime.
And Sky Sports claim United have already entered talks over a loan deal for Dembele, who is not at the forefront of Ronald Koeman’s plans at the Nou Camp and could leave the Catalan club in a short-term deal.
That move comes after the Red Devils had an approach to sign Italian winger Federico Chiesa REJECTED by Fiorentina.
The 22-year-old was also on United’s list of possible short-term signings, but the Daily Telegraph claim Fiorentina have no interest in loaning him out.
Juventus are also interested in Chiesa, who managed 11 goals and nine assists last season, and the Turin giants are said to be willing to pay £45m to sign him permanently.
But United could well bring in Real Madrid striker Luka Jovic, who is said to be keen on a move to Old Trafford.
The 22-year-old Serbian has struggled for regular game time in Madrid since his £55m arrival from Eintracht Frankfurt last summer, managing just two goals in 27 appearances in his first season at the Bernabeu.
Real are willing to let him leave on loan this summer to regain his confidence, having been told by Zinedine Zidane he is not in his plans for the season.
Talks with Man United are at an ‘advanced stage’, according to the Daily Star, and the player reportedly wants to join the Premier League side.
And a resolution is expected soon, with United set to pay his wages in full, although the Red Devils want an option to buy included in the deal, which Real are currently resisting.
Meanwhile, Ed Woodward is no closer to completing the signing of Alex Telles, with United still locked in talks with Porto.
Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has claimed the two clubs are still £9m apart in their valuations of the player, with United trying to get the player on the cheap knowing they can agree to sign him for free in January.
The 27-year-old full-back has entered the final year on his contract, and United have made a late cut-price move to try and force Porto into selling, knowing they could lose him for nothing in just a matter of months.
But time is running out to complete the deal, with pressure on Woodward increasing with recent comments from United legend Gary Neville, who criticised the club’s lack of transfers this summer.
“It’s appalling that in this market which is probably the easiest in PL history to get transfers done that United haven’t done more yet!” he wrote on Twitter.
“They must get Ole a CB, LB and Forward pre deadline! The others are managing to get things over the line why not United!”
