Manchester United have been dealt a big blow in their pursuit of Ousmane Dembele, with Barcelona demanding big money just to sign the winger on loan.
However, there is promising news from Italy as they chase an alternative, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer trying desperately to bring in another attacker before next week’s October 5 transfer deadline.
The Red Devils want to sign Dembele in a short-term deal after shelving their chase for Jadon Sancho, for the time being.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is looking to bring a forward in on loan instead, with the 23-year-old Frenchman at the top of their wish list due to his uncertain future at the Nou Camp.
Dembele, who remained on the bench for the 3-0 win against Celta Vigo, has reportedly been told he is not in new manager Ronald Koeman’s plans for the season at Barca and will be allowed to leave.
The Catalan giants like to offload the winger in a permanent deal but Man United are reluctant.
And while Barcelona are willing to let him move on loan, they are demanding United pay his £215,000-a-week wages in full to make it happen, which could make United look elsewhere.
The Premier League giants aren’t putting all their eggs in one basket, though, and there is more positive news coming from Italy as they also target a deal for Atalanta winger Amad Traore.
According to Manchester Evening News, Manchester United have entered talks over a permanent deal for the 18-year-old Ivorian.
It is claimed an agreement is far from done, but the club is ‘cautiously optimistic’ of completing the transfer before the transfer deadline.
Traore became the youngest player to score on his Serie A debut in Atalanta’s 7-1 win over Udinese last season, and although he has only played 30 minutes of football in Italy’s top flight, he is expected to not come cheap.
United are keen to get the deal done this summer before Premier League rules over signing young foreign talent changes after Brexit.
