Floyd Mayweather not happy after being trolled for having 50-0 record broken by little-known 54-0 champion from Thailand
Floyd Mayweather is less than impressed after being compared to Thailand’s Wanheng Menaoythin in recent years.
The WBC world champion fights in boxing’s smallest weight class – strawweight – and has built up a record that numerically surpasses the American boxing legend.
When Mayweather quit boxing with a 50-0 record in 2017, many made note of the fact he had outdone legendary heavyweight champion Rocky Marciano.
Marciano retired at 49-0 back in 1955 and it took 62 years for a champion to out-do his numerical achievement as they left the sport.
It hasn’t taken long for someone to top Floyd as Wanheng made it to 51-0 back in August 2018.
The 105lbs (7st 7lbs) champion announced back in June that he was planning to retire at 54-0, but has since reversed that decision for the time being.
Mayweather’s detractors have mocked him over the situation.
Floyd argued that his 50-0 record was a big part of why he should go down as ‘TBE’ – the best ever – in boxing history.
Although it’s obvious Wanheng’s record of champions beaten and weight divisions conquered does not stack up next to Floyd’s, some fans have still made jokes branding the Thai fighter as ‘the new TBE’.
“I’m 50-0 for a reason,” Mayweather responded in an interview with Club Shay Shay.
“Right now they got a fighter that’s over in Asia that’s 54-0 and they say, ‘This is the new TBE,’ because he’s about to retire.
“I said, ‘Y’all telling me about this fighter that fought one world champion?’
“He’s 54-0 and only beat one world champion?
“This is who y’all are trying to call TBE? Okay, y’all are some comedians.”
Wanheng’s next fight is likely for November, it appears Mayweather will be hoping he loses it.
