Chelsea reject loan offer with £70m option to buy from Bayern Munich for Callum Hudson-Odoi – but would reconsider improved offer
Chelsea have rejected a bid worth £70million from Bayern Munich for starlet Callum Hudson-Odoi, according to reports.
The reigning Champions League holders wanted to bring the England international to Bavaria on loan for the current season, with an option to buy the player for a set price.
But the Blues have rejected the offer for the 19-year-old, leaving Bayern with a small window to determine what they want to do next.
According to The Guardian, Chelsea may reconsider their stance if the Bundesliga side return with an offer which includes an obligation to buy the winger for £70m as opposed to an ‘option’.
Hudson-Odoi has drifted in and out of the Chelsea team under Frank Lampard, but started during Saturday’s 4-0 victory over Crystal Palace and played a starring second half role against West Brom last weekend.
Manager Frank Lampard told talkSPORT he wanted to keep the winger at the club following his impressive start to the season.
“I didn’t start him with a political view on it,” Lampard told talkSPORT. “I started him because I wanted him to give us natural width.
“At the minute we know we’re missing Christian Pulisic and Hakim Ziyech, who are probably the most natural wingers in our team along with Callum.
“I wasn’t thinking about that and I don’t know anything about those rumours to be fair.
“What I did like is that Callum fronts up his left back and tries to go by him. That was missing with Cal during the first half; he was playing too safe coming inside.
“He’s got pace, he’s got quality, he’s got trickery and he can cross the ball. He showed that in the second half.”
The teenager almost moved to Bavaria last summer, but eventually rebuffed Bayern’s offer to stay at Stamford Bridge and signed a bumper new deal.
It is understood he is not keen to force a move to Germany at this moment in time, but wants regular game time if he is to secure a place in Gareth Southgate’s England squad before the European Championship next summer.
