Samsung Galaxy Z Fold2 smartphone unveiled with 7.6-inch foldable display

Samsung has unveiled its latest foldable smartphone – the Galaxy Z Fold2.

The futuristic device was previewed at Samsung’s Unpacked event in August, but the full details were finally revealed today.

The Galaxy Z Fold2 is the successor of last year’s Galaxy Fold, which hit the headlines after a number of early testers reported issues with the device’s folding screen.

Thankfully, Samsung has included several important updates in the 2020 version, which should prevent any such issues from happening again.

The Galaxy Z Fold2 feature a huge 7.6-inch display with 27% smaller bezels than the Galaxy Fold.

It can be folded in half like a book, in which case users can continue to use the 6.2-inch cover display.

Users have a choice of three cameras – a 10MP front-facing camera housed in a discreet holepunch in the main display, a 10MP cover camera, or a triple-lens rear camera, comprised of a 12MP ultra-wide lens, a 12MP wide lens, and a 12MP telephoto lens.

While the Galaxy Fold was plagued with issues surrounding its folding mechanism, Samsung has introduced a new ‘Hideaway Hinge’ in the Galaxy Z Fold2.

The hinge creates a sturdier base while the smartphone is fully unfolded, as well as a smoother folding and unfolding experience.

Meanwhile, a magnetic support system ensures that the smartphone stays closed while it’s folded in your bag.

Unlike its predecessor, the Galaxy Z Fold2 also features a ‘Flex Mode’, which allows you to keep the screen half-folded in an L-shape.

One of the key benefits with the smartphones is the ability to run up to three apps at once.

Users can choose to split the main screen horizontally or vertically, or even run the same app in two different windows.

The stunning smartphone is available in two colours – Mystic Black or Mystic Bronze, with a further choice of hinge colours, including silver, gold, red or blue.

While the price for the Galaxy Z Fold2 is yet to be announced, it’s likely to be pretty eye-watering if the Galaxy Fold is anything to go by.

Rumours suggest that the Galaxy Z Fold2 is likely to cost around £1,800!
