Nick Diaz in fantastic shape ahead of UFC comeback – six years after Anderson Silva fight, with date in early 2021

We haven’t seen Nick Diaz since he took on Anderson Silva at the start of 2015.

But, it appears we haven’t seen the last of him in a UFC octagon.

The Stockton representative is plotting a comeback in 2021 and according to his manager, Kevin Mubenga, he has recently completed a weight cut to make sure he still can mix it with the best. Mubenga said he weighs in the ‘175-165Ibs’ range.

“He just completed a 14-week diet and training regimen. This is the first time he cuts weight in approximately four years,” he told journalist Ariel Helwani.

“Diaz wanted to do a test cut because he is keeping a close eye on the big welterweight fights coming up.”

Mubenga added he is ‘100 per cent’ planning on fighting again and is targeting early in 2021.”

Since his last fight – a ‘no contest’ result against Silva – Nick’s brother, Nate, has certainly proven his worth and had some major money fights.

A pair of scraps with McGregor – which ended with one victory each – still rank among the highest bought UFC shows ever and his recent BMF title showdown with Jorge Masvidal did so well they look set for a rematch.

However, it looks like Nick has his eyes on Masvidal, too.

“[Masvidal] can do anything he wants to do right now to make the most money possible,” Nick told Helwani last year.

“I’m like, you know, do the damn thing. […] I’m doing my part, you do yours. They can do their part and then the show could go on.”

Nick would have to let Nate have the chance to fight Masvidal again, but whomever he fights next, fireworks are almost certainly guaranteed.

While some fighters accentuate their personality to try and sell pay-per-views, the Diaz brothers are as authentic as they come and have never changed.

Part of their charm, if you will, is their trash talk. That street bravado inside and out the octagon has become legendary.

Nick’s fight against Silva in 2015 has become legendary for one moment of pure bravado.

No one could believe their eyes when he first lay down and invited the Brazilian to mount him and then leaned against the cage and essentially giving him a free shot.

In 2004, he managed to get inside Robbie Lawler’s head during their fight as his tough opponent did not anticipate the psychological warfare he was about to be engaged in.
