Nate Diaz shuts down Leon Edwards for slamming BMF rematch with Jorge Masvidal – Edwards reveals the real reason ‘Gamebred’ won’t fight him
The Leon Edwards and Jorge Masvidal saga doesn’t seem to want to go away.
Edwards, who has won eight successive UFC fights, has been campaigning for a fight with Masvidal who after a stellar 2019, had a title shot against Kamaru Usman in July, coincidentally, the last man to beat Edwards.
Masvidal, who took the fight with six days notice and went through a gruelling weight cut, lost and needs a couple wins to get back to contention.
The bad blood between the two started with Masvidal punching Edwards backstage at the O2 Arena after knocking Darren till out at UFC London in 2019.
Now, Masvidal is one of UFC’s top box office attractions and Edwards is on a hot streak that should either result in a title fight of a title eliminator.
However, to make matters worse, Masvidal and Nate Diaz are close to agreeing terms for a rematch of their BMF contest in November.
Upon hearing the news, Edwards took his rival to task, which was immediately seized upon by Diaz.
“Stop being a p**** and let’s f****** fight, right? You say you’re the Street Jesus and the BMF, let’s prove the case,” Edwards tweeted.
“You can’t go out there and fight a guy you just f****** battered in three rounds and then do it again and call yourself the BMF. That’s not how it works. So stop being a p**** and step up.
Diaz’s response appeared to tickle Masvidal, who posted laughing emojis in one of the comments.
“You got f***ed up in the back for acting like you were tight,” Diaz began. “This fight s*** is the same everywere, in or out of the cage… don’t get punked ever. That goes for kabob also, you guys are in last place now lol.”
Edwards has since come out and said he knows Masvidal has told UFC that he won’t fight Edwards unless the Brit has the welterweight title.
“Yeah, I think that’s the annoying part,” he told Submission Radio. “Because the UFC wants the fight, like, especially the Jorge fight. I know he went to the UFC and he said he won’t fight me unless I got the title or whatever. But I believe he needs to fight someone in the top five to get to a title, which he’s not doing.
“So, it’s frustrating, because the UFC wants it, I want it, but the other guys, they’re saying no because I’m a hard fight and they don’t want to lose. So, I don’t know.
“He’s come out and said he doesn’t want none of the smoke with me, he’ll only fight me for that world title. So, I’m kind of over it now,” Edwards added.
“He doesn’t want to fight. So, when I see him, we’ll be on site fighting, and he knows what it is when we see each other. It is what it is.
“You cannot force a man into a fight, right? If he says he don’t want to fight, you can’t. Nothing you can do to force him into it. I want it, the UFC want it. He keeps saying he doesn’t want it. So, what more can I do?”
