‘Jadon Sancho is worth £60m, not £100m’ – Manchester United would be ‘wrong’ to complete big-money transfer during COVID-19 crisis, says Jamie O’Hara

Manchester United have been urged to ‘be patient’ and shelve their pursuit of English wonderkid Jadon Sancho until next summer.

Jamie O’Hara believes it would be ‘wrong’ for the Premier League giants to fork out over £100million for one player during the COVID-19 crisis, saying £60m would be a fairer price in the current market.

There’s no chance Borussia Dortmund would accept that fee, though, and according to recent reports it appears Sancho will stay in Germany for the time being.

United have been left frustrated in the chase for their number one summer target after Dortmund’s sporting director insisted this week he will not be leaving, with the team beginning their preparations for the new 2020/21 Bundesliga season.

Sancho appears to have made peace with it, too, as the winger – who was said to be very keen on a move to Old Trafford – broke his silence on Wednesday to hint that his long-term future is with BVB.

“I love playing with this lot,” Sancho said after playing in a pre-season friendly. “It is a special bunch.

“We’ve got some special young players coming up. I am really happy to share the pitch with them and guide them… guide them in what’s good and what isn’t. I can hopefully motivate them as well.”

Despite Sancho’s desire to become a leader in the Dortmund dressing room, it has been claimed United are still hopeful of doing a deal due to the German side’s apparent eagerness to keep the saga in the public eye.

talkSPORT pundit O’Hara has said he would ‘love’ to see Sancho tearing it up in the Premier League in a Manchester United.

But he believes it would be bad taste to complete such a huge deal in the current climate, due to the effects of the coronavirus pandemic.

“If Manchester United do get Sancho over the line, then they’re going to be a real force,” the former Tottenham midfielder said on the talkSPORT Breakfast.

“They’ve been fantastic since lockdown and I thought they ended the season brilliantly.

“I’d love to see Jadon Sancho in the Premier League… but it’s a lot of money if they’re talking over £100m, especially in the current situation.

“I don’t think £100m is right. £60m or £70m for him, fair enough… but if you’re going to pay top-end in this current situation, I just don’t see how that can be right.

“So as much as I’d love him to come, if they have to wait a season, then so be it.

“It would be really stupid while all over the world people are struggling, people are losing their jobs, there are redundancies… and then Man United go and spent £100m on one player – that’s my issue with it.

“If it was a normal market then £100m is worth it for a 20-year-old who is going to be one of your best players.

“But I just think they shouldn’t be held to ransom by Borussia Dortmund, because they know Man United really want him. Be patient.

“We all have to understand that the world’s changed, and those huge transfer fees really and truly shouldn’t be happening right now.”
