Inter Milan enter transfer race for Chris Smalling as Antonio Conte looks to sign FOURTH player from Manchester United
Antonio Conte could be about to sign his FOURTH Manchester United player as Inter Milan boss by adding Chris Smalling to the squad.
Smalling, 30, was allowed to find a new club by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and was sent out on loan to Roma for the 2019/20 season.
Smalling was reportedly keen to make his switch to Roma permanent
The defender performed well as he made 30 Serie A appearances and even managed three goals and two assists. He was even dubbed ‘Smalldini’ in reference to Italian legend Paolo Maldini.
Roma were keen to sign Smalling, who wasn’t available for their Europa League defeat to Sevilla earlier this month, on a permanent deal but were put off by United’s £21million asking price.
Juventus were linked with a Smalling summer swoop but it seems like another big Italian side are after him too.
Former Chelsea boss Conte is hoping he can lure Smalling to the San Siro, according to Gazzetta.
This wouldn’t be the first time Inter have brought in a player from Old Trafford, with both Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez coming last summer, while Ashley Young joined them in January.

The report suggests that the ‘good relations’ between United and Inter could help to get the deal done, however, it also reaffirms Juventus’ interest in Smalling.
Next season could present an opportunity to end Juve’s dominance of Serie A, with the club making Andrea Pirlo their new manager after sacking Maurizio Sarri.
Juve have won the last nine Scudettos with Inter last lifting the title in the 2009/10 season.
