Boxing news: Anthony Joshua makes Dillian Whyte vs Alexander Povetkin prediction ahead of Fight Camp finale
Anthony Joshua says the Dillian Whyte vs Alexander Povetkin fight will be decided on a points decision.
Whyte, the ‘Body Snatcher’, will defend his interim WBC heavyweight title against Povetkin on Saturday night at Matchroom’s Fight Camp.
Joshua, who has beaten both men in the past, has backed Whyte to win, but believes he will struggle against the Russian boxer.
He told Sky Sports: “Everyone has issues in training; if he [Whyte] trained right, he will come through.
“He is a fighter, Dillian. But Povetkin is a seriously skilled heavyweight – an Olympic gold medallist, a world champion whose only losses were against [Wladimir] Klitschko and me.
Dillian Whyte shows off incredible five-month body transformation for Alexander Povektin
“He’s good, a good fighter who hasn’t been on the losing end much so hasn’t got used to that feeling.
“He still has the hunger and will go in against Dillian thinking he can win.”
Whyte vs Povetkin was originally scheduled for May 2, but has been rearranged twice.
Now, the pair will square off at Eddie Hearn’s ingenious Fight Camp headquarters in Essex.
When asked to name his winner, Joshua added: “It will go to a points decision.”
The winner of Whyte vs Povetkin will be mandated to fight the victor of Tyson Fury’s trilogy bout against Deontay Wilder.
If Fury wins, it could further delay a mega unification fight between himself and Joshua.
Both fighters have agreed financial terms to box each other twice next year in one of the most highly anticipated bouts in recent history.
