In case you weren’t aware, talkSPORT host Laura Woods is a bit of a legend.
Our new Breakfast Show presenter spent her Friday night hosting the end-of-season awards for a relegated Sunday League team on Zoom.
Riverside Rovers, a Southampton-based team famous for their utterly atrocious pitch, took a punt on Twitter to see if Woodsy was available for the gig.
And with the whole lack of any actual sport going on right now, it turns out she was free. Who wouldn’t make time for such a prestigious event?
Wearing classic lockdown attire – business on top and casual on the bottom – she joined 20 guys she’d never met for a few ciders and handed out their well-earned prizes.
“As we get into May, for presenters like me that usually means the end of season awards,” Woodsy said on her Instagram story.
“But now there’s no sport, we have a lot more time on our hands than we usually would.
“It was so funny, I absolutely loved it, it was wicked. Just having a couple of ciders with 20 people I’ve never met before.”
It was a bittersweet night for the Rovers, whose season had already ended in relegation.
Woodsy prepped an A4 sheet with the names and positions of every player, while one club member put together a feature-length PowerPoint presentation detailing every moment of the season.
But it was only later that Woodsy discovered the team had actually gone down.
“The powerpoint presentation that Lewis put together was exceptional. He meticulously went through every game and every moment in the season, but failed to tell me the team were actually relegated,” she added.
“So I’m raising another glass to all of you at Riverside Rovers. It doesn’t matter that you got relegated, next season you’ll get promoted, because you’re that good.”
