Jose Mourinho faces the axe at Tottenham unless he turns them into title contenders next season, according to talkSPORT’s Darren Gough.
Mourinho, the former Manchester United and Chelsea boss, was named as Mauricio Pochettino’s successor in November 2019.

The Portuguese boss has won 11 of the 24 games he has taken charge of Spurs to date, while the north London side suffered a humbling Champions League last-16 defeat at the hands of RB Leipzig in March.
England cricket legend Gough believes time is not on Mourinho’s side at Tottenham, and says he must get off to a good start once the 2020/21 season kicks off or faces the boot.
“There is going to be an expectancy, even after the year we’ve had after all the sporting interruptions with the pandemic, about Tottenham next season,” he said on Wednesday’s Drivetime.
“If they don’t get off to a good start, Mourinho won’t be there long. There has to be a push of sorts next season.
“The expectancy with Mourinho coming in as manager is to be competing and winning trophies.
“It’s not to get in the Champions League. It’s to compete at the top and win trophies.”

Drivetime host Adrian Durham believes the extended break is one that Spurs should embrace and use as an opportunity to herald a new era – with the hope that consistent silverware will start to arrive very soon.
Wednesday marked the 59th anniversary of Spurs becoming the first team in the 20th century to complete the FA Cup and league double, and they haven’t won the league since.
“Given the quality of the players they’ve had down the years, I find it so hard to believe they haven’t won a title in 59 years,” Durham added.
“It defies belief, if you think it through. I find it astonishing. They’ve been a top club in that time, albeit they had a dip down to the second tier at one stage.
“Maybe now is the time for everyone connected to Tottenham just to reset and how they go forward from here.
“It’s almost like the opportunity to have a restart, it gives them the chance to change their goals and ambitions now.
“Maybe now they can drive on to win the title in a way they’ve never seriously done before.”
