Derby forward Mason Bennett apologises for saying ‘f***ing burn’ in video while passing Pride Park

Mason Bennett has apologised after a video emerged of the Derby forward saying ‘f***ing burn’ while passing Pride Park.

The Rams forward, who joined Millwall on loan in January, has been in the spotlight for the wrong reasons this season.

Last October, Bennett and his Derby teammate Tom Lawrence pleaded guilty to drink-driving after crashing their cars on the A6 near Allestree, Derby, shortly before midnight on September 24.

And his latest actions of wishing harm on his parent club’s home ground look set to throw his Derby future into further doubt.

Bennett, 23, took to Twitter to address the Snapchat video, which was meant to be sent to a friend as a ‘private joke’.

He said: “The video that’s come out was a private joke, didn’t mean any harm to the derby fans. The club has been great with me and will always be greatful [sic]. I apologise if I’ve offended anyone.

“There is a picture of my good friend shinz and it was a joke to him.”

Bennett has made 89 first-team appearances since coming through the ranks at Derby.

He is currently serving a two-year ban from driving and, along with Lawrence, was fined six weeks’ wages by the club.

At the time, District Judge Jonathan Taaffee told both Bennett and Lawrence: “You are extremely fortunate to be here today.

“You had been drinking and have been involved in a road traffic collision that could have led to death.”

Richard Keogh, the club’s captain at the time, suffered a serious knee injury by being in the back seat of Lawrence’s car when it crashed into a lamppost.

Derby then sacked Keogh for gross misconduct, ending his seven-year spell with the club.
