Stunning Liverpool bust-up involving Steven Gerrard and El-Hadji Diouf detailed by ex-Red Florent Sinama-Pongolle

Former Liverpool forward Florent Sinama-Pongolle has revealed extraordinary details of a dressing room bust-up between El-Hadji Diouf and Steven Gerrard.

Diouf, whose dire spell at Anfield saw him score just six goals in 80 appearances, has launched a series of attacks on Gerrard since leaving the club in 2005, accusing him of ‘killing’ the Merseyside club and being ‘jealous’ of his talent.

And Sinama-Pongolle, who was part of the same team at Anfield under French boss Gerard Houllier, has recalled a half-time row during a pre-season encounter that might have been the catalyst for the pair’s deep-rooted rivalry.

In an interview with journalist Walid Acherchour, Sinama-Pongolle said: “It was half-time of a pre-season game. There was a fight between Diouf and Gerrard. I was traumatised.

“Can you imagine the young ones seeing this and thinking that’s what professionals are like at that level?

“At half-time, in the dressing room. Stevie G is all like ‘you have to pass, you have to pass’ and [Diouf] just loses it.

“He didn’t speak English. His English was rubbish. You know what he did? They hated each other so much. Steven Gerrard arrives, he insults Diouf, saying: ‘Hey, you f*****’.

“And [Diouf] couldn’t answer, so he grabs Gerard Houllier and says: ‘Tell him, I’ll f*** his mum’. He came in and said: ‘I’m not his mate, I’ll do him in straight away’.”

Diouf, who also had spells at the likes of Bolton, Sunderland and Blackburn during a troubled career, had various off-field problems during his time in English football – including one incident where he spat at a Celtic fan.

When asked about his issues in 2017, Diouf said: “Maybe they used to tell me something I didn’t want to hear. I did that, I paid and now it’s finished.”
