What an exciting time to be a Newcastle fan with the £300million takeover of the club on the verge of completion.
For years, the Toon Army have been frustrated by current owner Mike Ashley’s lack of spending in the transfer market.

But good things come to those who wait and it looks like Newcastle will become one of the richest clubs in world football as the consortium looking to purchase the club off Ashley is headed by the Saudi royal family’s Public Investment Fund.
Newcastle fans will hoping the club will do what Chelsea did when Roman Abramovich became their owner and start to bring in some of the world’s best players.
However, Chelsea had already qualified for the Champions League by then so the Russian billionaire was able to make those big investments straight away.
The Magpies will have to build more gradually, similar to how Manchester City became a top club following Sheikh Mansour’s takeover in 2008.
So it’s unlikely we’ll see the likes of Kylian Mbappe come to Newcastle. Not yet, anyway…

Dries Mertens (Napoli)
If there’s one thing Newcastle need, it’s a natural goalscorer. They’ve scored just 25 times in 29 Premier League matches this term which is the joint-lowest tally in the top flight.
A name who’s been linked with Newcastle is Mertens and his contract at Napoli expires in the summer. He therefore wouldn’t cost the club a penny, although they would have to pay him huge wages.
He may turn 33 in May but Mertens would be a signing that would send a message to the Premier League and the world that their owners are not afraid to break the mould of the top clubs bringing in the big names – similar to when Man City nabbed Robinho out of Chelsea’s grasp in 2008.
Most importantly, Mertens would bring goals and assists to Newcastle, having bagged 90 goals and 51 assists in Serie A.
He would help create more chances for the likes of Miguel Almiron and Allan Saint-Maximin, who frequently have to feed off scraps in matches and would provide Joelinton with the competition he needs to spring into action.

John McGinn (Aston Villa)
The Newcastle Chronicle reports that the bookies have 11/4 odds on McGinn going to St James’ Park this summer.
McGinn is currently out with a serious ankle injury but is viewed as one of the best midfielders in the lower reaches of the Premier League and his absence from Aston Villa’s squad has been felt as they’ve slipped into the relegation zone.
Should Villa go down, McGinn would be one of those players likely to get a move to a bigger club and the Scotland international could be tempted by an exciting new project in the north east which would also see him reunite with former Villa boss Steve Bruce.
It would bolster Newcastle’s midfield options too, keeping the likes of Jonjo Shelvey, Isaac Hayden, as well as Sean and Matty Longstaff on their toes.

Boubakary Soumare (Lille)
It’s understood Newcastle were interested in signing Lille midfielder Soumare back in January but he was reportedly holding out for a move to Liverpool or Manchester United.
But with new money, comes a new appeal. And Newcastle may try and sign the French youth international again.
Dubbed the ‘new Paul Pogba’, Soumare, 21, is set to be a future star and perhaps a player that’s part of the Magpies’ desired journey to the top.
He usually plays in defensive midfield so would be good competition for the likes of Shelvey, Hayden and the Longstaff brothers.

Diego Godin (Inter Milan)
Defence is probably the area where Newcastle are at their best but there’s no harm in keeping things fresh.
Veteran centre-back Godin, 34, has been linked with moves to Manchester United and Tottenham as his career stalls with Inter Milan.
So this could be the perfect opportunity for Newcastle to hijack their pursuit of Godin and like signing Mertens, it would send a strong message to their competitors that they’re ambitious.
The Uruguayan would add some experience to Newcastle’s back line and would provide excellent competition for club captain Jamaal Lascelles and Switzerland international Fabian Schar.

Max Aarons (Norwich)
The Canaries look doomed to go down but a few of their players are good enough to stay in the Premier League, including full-back Aarons.
Newcastle don’t really have a settled right-back, with the likes of Javi Manquillo, DeAndre Yedlin and Emil Krafth competing with each other but Aarons, 20, could stamp his authority on the position.
Arsenal and Tottenham are reportedly interested in Aarons but it’s not really clear what direction the north London clubs are going in which could work to Newcastle’s advantage.
Should the takeover happen, there’d be no concerns about whether Newcastle could afford Aarons.
