Juventus lining up sensational summer transfer for Tottenham star Harry Kane with future of Gonzalo Higuain in doubt

Juventus are reportedly lining up a sensational summer bid for Tottenham striker Harry Kane as Gonzalo Higuain stalls on returning to the club.

Higuain is delaying his return to Juventus amid the coronavirus crisis and could even scrap going back completely as he looks after his mother, who has cancer and is also trying to self-isolate as the pandemic continues to take its toll on the world.

Juventus’ first team are expected to complete a 14-day isolation period before returning to training next week, and the Argentine’s refusal to return could see his contract terminated.

According to Corriere dello Sport, Juve chiefs will consider a huge summer bid for Kane this summer as they look to replace the 32-year-old, who has scored 63 goals for the club.

Earlier this month, Kane helped fuel speculation of a possible move in the future by insisting he would not stay at Spurs ‘for the sake of it’.

Give COVID-19 the red card

The quicker we work together to stop coronavirus spreading, the sooner we can get back into the pubs, the gyms and stadiums and arenas to see live sport again…

STAY AT HOME. Only leave for the following purposes:

  • to shop for basic essentials – only when you really need to

  • to do one form of exercise a day – such as a run, walk or cycle, alone or with other people you live with

  • for any medical need – for example, to visit a pharmacy or deliver essential supplies to a vulnerable person

  • to travel to and from work – but only where this is absolutely necessary

Everyone should do what they can to stop coronavirus spreading.

However, Juventus may have to fight off competition from Manchester United for Kane’s signature, with Ole Gunnar Soslkjaer said to be an admirer of the England captain.

Kane, who has a phenomenal goalscoring record at Spurs with 136 goals in 196 Premier League appearances, was lauded as the ‘most natural no.9 since Ruud van Nistelrooy’ by United legend Wayne Rooney at the weekend.

“I’m going to be honest – and this might surprise you – but I’m not a natural goalscorer,” he said.

“I was never a Gary Lineker or a Ruud van Nistelrooy; I never looked at myself that way.

“I hold the goal records for Manchester United and England and am very proud about that – yet there have been better no.9s than me.

“Harry is a classic no.9, the closest I’ve seen to Ruud. If I were building a team, he’s the one I’d start with. Harry Kane: there’s my no.9, then I’d build the rest around him.

“In the last two seasons we’ve seen him drop deeper more and play balls in behind and he’s very good at it, as we saw when England beat Spain in Seville.

“But if I were managing Harry, I’d be telling him to stay high as that no.9. His biggest strength is finishing and he strikes the ball so well that from 20 yards or closer he should be looking to hit it whenever possible.”
