Anthony Joshua swooned like a love-struck teenager when he was saluted by Canelo Alvarez at his fight in December 2018.
When the pair both signed US broadcast deals with emerging streaming service DAZN, Joshua started by knocking out Alexander Povetkin in September.
Three months later he flew to New York to witness Canelo’s arrival as he stopped Rocky Fielding in three rounds.
Before the first bell rang, the Mexican pound-for-pound king spotted his fellow boxing superstar at ringside.
Canelo pointed his fist directly at the Brit as a showing of respect, with AJ not quite sure how to respond.
Joshua’s friend next to him at ringside filmed the encounter and then turned the camera on the heavyweight champion.
He jokingly pretended to swoon for the star of the show.
At this point Joshua and Canelo stood alone as by far the two biggest attractions in world boxing.
This remains true today, though Tyson Fury’s drawing power is closing in on AJ’s following his massive win over Deontay Wilder.
