Jose Mourinho wants to sign Arsenal target Marcel Sabitzer, who scored twice for RB Leipzig vs Tottenham in Champions League

Tottenham and Arsenal are interested in signing RB Leipzig star Marcel Sabitzer, according to reports.

The Austria midfielder scored twice as Leipzig beat Spurs 3-0 to knock Jose Mourinho’s side out the Champions League on Tuesday.

And Italian outlet CalcioMercato claim his performance caught the attention of Tottenham boss Mourinho, as well as Spurs’ north London rivals Arsenal.

Sabitzer, who is able to play in central midfield and on the wing, has scored 15 goals and registered eight assists in all competitions so far this season.

He is playing a crucial role in Leipzig’s title charge, with the club five points behind Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich.

Sabitzer could be an ideal replacement for Christian Eriksen, who left Tottenham for Internazionale in a £17million deal in January.

Meanwhile, he could be a long-term successor to Mesut Ozil, 31, at Arsenal.

The former Germany midfielder has struggled for form this season, scoring only once and assisting twice in 18 Premier League appearances.

Sabitzer has been a huge hit at Leipzig since arriving from Austrian club Rapid Wien in 2014 – and he appears to be in no hurry to leave Germany.

Earlier this month, he said: “If things continue like this, there’s no reason to leave the club.

“It has been fun and special to help shape the club and bring it forward. I will still feel connected to the club and the city in 20 years.”

Sabitzer’s RB Leipzig contract runs until 2022.
