The outbreak of coronavirus has lead to a number of people panic buying everyday essentials, including soap and toilet paper.
And with certain shops running low on stock and others limiting the amount each person can buy at one time, some are worried we could face a coronavirus-related toilet roll shortage in the UK soon, despite manufacturers saying otherwise.
As such people have begun to search for alternatives to toilet paper and there’s been a noticeable increase over the last few weeks in the number of people Googling the word ‘bidet’.
For those who might not know, a bidet is a plumbing fixture that is used to wash the genitals and the anus. It’s typically located near a toilet, but you can also buy ones which fix onto a toilet seat.

Across Europe, bidets are often found to be a common feature in homes, especially in Italy where around 97 percent of houses have one.
Over in Australia, bidets seem to be increasing in popularity too, with one bidet business reporting an increase in sales by 500 percent since the outbreak.
Speaking to Mail Online, Managing director of Australian Bidets Randall Calby said: “It’s crazy. We’ve also been getting a lot of phone calls, which have resulted in some sales.
“People are really looking for alternative options.”
And it seems people in the UK are also considering their options.
Over on Twitter some are urging their fellow Brits to “bring back the bidet”.
Bake Off star Candice Brown took to the social media site to encourage people to stop panic buying loo roll and just wash themselves instead.
She wrote: “If you run out of toilet roll- wash your bum in the shower.”
Hundreds of people liked her tweet, with many agreeing and sharing their own suggestions.
Ali Imdad replied: “Tbh us muslims have been ahead of the game for centuries. We wash our bum regardless. I have a mini waterjet thing in my toilet so I don’t have to stockpile loo roll like a madman.”
Another person admitted they always wash themselves, saying: “Always do anyway. Paper alone doesn’t clean you properly.”
“Been saying this to everyone,” proclaimed a third. “Running out of loo paper at home would not be the end of the world.”
A different user asked: “Why are people hoarding rolls of toilet paper? Just buy one bidet.”
