Aston Villa consider ending Danny Drinkwater's loan spell after Chelsea midfielder HEADBUTTED teammate Jota during training ground bust-up

Danny Drinkwater’s career looks set to plunge into further crisis with Aston Villa considering cutting the Chelsea midfielder’s loan spell short after a training ground bust-up with winger Jota.

The Daily Mail claim Drinkwater headbutted the Spaniard during a furious exchange between the pair at Bodymoor Heath on Tuesday.

Aston Villa are bang in trouble – Jason Cundy’s relegation fears for Jack Grealish and Co.

Dean Smith then reportedly sent the former Premier League winner home, with the 30-year-old set to be fined for his part in the altercation.

Villa are still contemplating whether or not to end Drinkwater’s spell at Villa Park in the wake of the incident, which occurred during a session involving players who were not involved in Monday’s 4-0 defeat at Leicester.

Drinkwater was one of the most sought after midfielders in England after the Foxes sensationally clinched the top flight title in May 2016, subsequently earning a £30m move to Stamford Bridge a year later.

But things couldn’t have gone much worse for Drinkwater since, with Burnley terminating his season-long loan spell in January with the midfielder having made just two appearances in six months.

Drinkwater also created the wrong sort of headlines off the field when he was attacked on a night out in Manchester in September.

The latest incident could not have come at a worse time for Dean Smith, whose position is already under increasing scrutiny after a woeful run of form.

The Telegraph claim a heavy defeat against Frank Lampard’s Champions League chasers on Saturday evening could result in Smith losing his job.

The relegation-threatened side have lost their past five games in all competitions and lie 19th in the top flight, two points adrift of the bottom three, with 10 games left to play.
