Transfer insider: Manchester United to sign Cavani AND Pellistri, Tottenham and Arsenal want Chelsea stars, West Ham’s centre-back blow and new target named
Manchester United are going to sign TWO Uruguayans on the same day with Edinson Cavani and Facundo Pellistri to both join the Red Devils.
This is according to talkSPORT’s transfer insider Alex Crook, who joined Sunday’s Weekend Sports Breakfast to give us the lowdown on all the latest gossip and biggest rumours.
Cavani is flying to England on Sunday to undergo a medical and will put pen to paper on a two-year deal with Man United on Monday, and he will be joined by compatriot Pellistri, an 18-year-old winger.
The teenager is to join the Red Devils from Penarol in his homeland, with Crook revealing to talkSPORT that United have already activated his £10million release clause.
“Cavani isn’t going to be the only Uruguayan pitching up at Old Trafford,” began Crook. “talkSPORT understands that they’ve also activated a £10m release clause for Penarol winger Facundo Pellistri.
“This is quite an exciting signing; he’s only 18 years of age and has been linked with some of the biggest clubs in Europe. I think he’ll be coming through the door come Monday as well.

“Talks are also ongoing with Porto for Alex Telles, and if that one goes through Diogo Dalot will be allowed to join AC Milan on loan. I think it’s going to be a really busy 48 hours up in the North West.”
There was also an Arsenal transfer update concerning the Gunners’ hunt for a new midfielder and their attentions shifting to a Chelsea player.
Crook added: “MIkel Arteta has been pushing all summer for [Houssem] Aouar at Lyon, and Lyon gave Arsenal a deadline of Friday to get the deal done – clearly that hasn’t happened.
“It’s my understanding that the Gunners have now turned their attentions to Jorginho, and I’m told Chelsea would be willing to sell, despite the fact he scored twice from the penalty spot yesterday, but it would take an offer in excess of £40m.
“The fact Arsenal haven’t had the finances to get Aouar away from Lyon suggests that’s unlikely. They also looked at Brighton midfielder Yves Bissouma earlier in the window, but I think the Seagulls would be reluctant sellers this late in the day.”
The latest Spurs insider info also deals with Chelsea, as Tottenham have been holding talks with the agent of Blues centre-back Antonio Rudiger.
“I think [Rudiger to Spurs] is difficult because there is animosity between the two clubs,” said Crook.
“Spurs have failed to reach an agreement with [Inter Milan’s] Milan Skriniar and Jose Mourinho would still like to bring in a central defender. Talks have taken place between Spurs and Rudiger’s agent, but all indications at this stage are that it’s a deal Chelsea are not particularly keen to do.”
And finally, Crook provided some West Ham transfer information as the Hammers seek to bring in a much-desired new centre-back before Monday’s 11pm transfer deadline.
“David Moyes would like to be active with only the two signings so far,” finished Crook. “He wants a new central defender, much like Mourinho, and I know they bid for Duje Caleta-Car at Marseille. A fee was actually agreed there of £20m but I think the player wants to stay at Marseille.
“Craig Dawson is an interesting one because he wasn’t in the Watford squad yesterday and it’s my understanding he’s been told he’s surplus to requirements at Vicarage Road. That would be the type of player Moyes would like to bring through the door.”
