WWE set to push SmackDown star Naomi ‘in the coming weeks’
Who WWE pushes seems to be a constant in the wrestling media and it always will be.
A ‘push’ means WWE are going to book a character to enjoy a sustained amount of success whether that be just being used more on TV, winning more matches or even winning titles.
In the women’s division, SmackDown superstar Naomi is expected to be booked considerably stronger in the coming weeks according to the reliable Mike Johnson of PW Insider.
“WWE heard the recent social media outrage towards how Naomi has been used loud and clear and there are plans to push her in a stronger manner as well in the weeks ahead as well.”
Naomi has had a decent WWE career thus far. After debuting as a dancer flanking Broadus Clay called the Funkadactyls, she has gone on to become a two-time SmackDown Women’s champion.
She also won the Women’s Battle Royal at WrestleMania 34, but she has been misused if used at all since returning at the Royal Rumble earlier this year.
Fans finally got fed up of Naomi’s booking on SmackDown and started the hashtag ‘Naomi deserves better’.
The next week, WWE had a segment where Naomi talked about this with The Miz and John Morrison, but it was more of a comedy segment in many ways than a serious address.
According to Johnson, Naomi’s luck is about to change and she will be a featured player on SmackDown.
The only issue with many of the women at the moment is the featured story going on between Sasha Banks and Bayley.
The long-term story being told is a valuable one and it’s understandable that WWE would put a lot of emphasis on them, but having all the belts leading up to SummerSlam didn’t leave WWE – who haven’t always booked women feuds well outside of the title picture – much room to go.
Could Naomi put on a renewed challenge for the women’s title? It’s been nearly six months since she battled for the belt in Saudi Arabia, so it seems like it could be her time.
