Nintendo went all out to celebrate the 35th anniversary of gaming icon Mario and the release of Super Mario Bros for the Nintendo Entertainment System back in 1985.
All manner of Mario madness is materialising with Nintendo releasing several special Mario games and products to mark the occasion and that will appeal to fans old and new.
The news was announced to delighted fans via a special Nintendo Direct presentation dedicated to the red-clad hero. Thus confirming persistent rumours and suspicions of Mario remasters and ports coming to the Switch.
Nintendo also had other announcements and tricks up their sleeves to surprise the platforming plumbers fans.

In a homage to the first Nintendo handheld the Game & Watch, rleased in the 1980s by designer Gunpei Yokoi. Nintendo unveiled the Super Mario Game & Watch, a beautiful, vintage-looking, limited edition handheld.
The device features NES Classic platformer Super Mario Bros built-in. The system also features The Lost levels and a Mario themed Game & Watch ball game, and of course, it functions as a watch. Game & Watch Super Mario Bros is out 13 November.
Super Mario 3D World + Bowsers Fury
Super Mario 3D World, a Wii U title from 2013 and the game that bought us Cat Mario will be coming to the Nintendo Switch. Brining its distinctive flavour of 3D worlds and multiplayer mayhem to the handheld system. It will also include new Content with Bowsers Fury and is coming to Switch 12 February 2021.
Super Mario 35
This twist on the classic NES title functions much like Tetris 99. Playing against 35 other players simultaneously, sending any defeated enemies to other players courses and with them sending their foes to you.
Using item roulette, you could gain an edge on other players and be the last Mario standing. The game launches 1 October and will be exclusive to Nintendo Switch Online members. It will also only be available for a limited time until 31 March 2021.
Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit
This brings all the fun and madness of playing Mario Kart into the real world. Using your Nintendo Switch you can control a real remote-controlled Mario or Luigi and race any custom layout you choose, with your actions in-game affecting the real-world karts. Mario Kart Live hits the track running on 16 October.
Super Mario All Stars
The 1993 Super Nintendo compilation of classic Mario games including Super Mario 1,2,3 and the Lost Levels is now on Super Nintendo Online collection for Switch. Allowing you to play these classics anywhere with upgraded visuals and the best part is it’s out now and free for those with Nintendo Switch Online accounts.
Super Mario 3D All Stars
The real showstopper was Super Mario 3D All Stars. This collection features three of Mario’s 3D outings bundled together including,
The N64 classic Super Mario 64, the GameCube’s Super Mario Sunshine and Wii outing Super Mario Galaxy all with remastered with higher resolution textures and updated to 16:9 aspect ratio to play better on the Nintendo Switch.
A soundtrack of music from all three games is also included in the collection. The Collection will be available from 18 September 2020 and a digital edition will be available for a limited time until March 2021.
