Newcastle United have bid accepted for former Liverpool transfer target Jamal Lewis

Newcastle United look set to make their first major signing of the summer after having a bid accepted for Jamal Lewis.

The Norwich City left-back, who starred in a relegated side last season, will now look to complete the switch, worth an initial £13.75million but with ‘significant’ performance-related add-ons, talkSPORT understands.

Lewis was wanted by Liverpool this summer as they hunted for a backup to Andrew Robertson but the Canaries considered a bid, reportedly an initial £8m rising to £10m, derisory. The Reds eventually signed Kostas Tsimikas from Olympiakos.

And now, with manager Daniel Farke signing a stunning 11 players this summer, Norwich seem set to sell one of their prized academy graduates.

Norwich could also profit in the future too with a sell-on clause also believed to be a part of the transfer.

Lewis, 22, is currently on international duty with Northern Ireland.

The youngster won’t be the only incoming at St James’ Park either as boss Steve Bruce springs into action.

talkSPORT’s transfer guru Alex Crook joined the Weekend Sports Breakfast on Saturday to share the latest news and gossip from St James’ Park.

“A month today until the transfer window closes and Newcastle are certainly trying to do some business,” he said.

“We’re hearing at talkSPORT this morning they have had a £13.5m bid for Norwich defender Jamal Lewis accepted.

“Of course Lewis was wanted by Liverpool earlier in the window but they weren’t willing to meet Norwich’s valuation.

“It looks now Newcastle have got a really good signing on their hands, and they’re certainly trying to be busy in the window.

talkSPORT issues the latest on Ryan Fraser’s move to Newcastle

“We know they’re interested in Callum Wilson, talks have been held with his representatives, Ryan Fraser on a free transfer and Rob Holding is another possible arrival on a season long loan.

“So Steve Bruce is trying to get some players through the door.”

Jeff Hendrick has already signed for the club on a free transfer.

Bruce remarked on the signing: “He’s an experienced international footballer who can play all across the midfield so we welcome him aboard. He’ll be a big asset to us, on and off the pitch.”
