Manchester United legend Patrice Evra makes football comeback for non-league club Brentham FC
Manchester United legend Patrice Evra has made his football comeback for non-league club Brentham FC.
The former France defender, 39, played for the Middlesex County League side in a 3-2 loss to North Greenford United on Saturday.
Brentham FC play in step seven of the National League system and are based in London.
Footage emerged of Evra, who retired from football last year, taking a throw-in, before flicking the ball to a teammate.
On Twitter, Brentham FC said: “It was a real privilege to have @Evra train and play for us. He needed some minutes ahead of the @socceraid match for @UNICEF taking place at @ManUtd Old Trafford next month.”
Evra won five Premier League titles and a Champions League trophy during his eight-year spell at Old Trafford.
He left the club for Juventus in 2014 and later claimed he felt ‘betrayed’ by United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward.
He said: “I felt betrayed by Ed. I called Juventus to tell them I am coming.
“Ed then said, ‘We offer you a two-year contract, more money, the captaincy, a testimonial’.
“Too late [to renege on his agreement with Juventus]. [In June 2015] my ex-wife said, ‘See? Manchester are nearly in the Championship and you’re in [the Champions League final].’
“I love Juventus but I said, ‘Even if they’re in the Championship, I prefer to be at United. Nothing can replace my love for them.’”
