Manchester United could finish ABOVE Liverpool this season with the Reds back to NOT retain their Premier League crown.
talkSPORT host Adrian Durham made the shock claim on Thursday’s Drivetime, saying the Reds will struggle to live up to the incredible heights they set last season and will endure a tough campaign.
He believes Liverpool’s ‘monumental’ achievement to win a first ever Premier League title – their first top-flight crown in 30 years – will see Jurgen Klopp’s side fizzle out throughout the 2020/21 season.
The Merseysiders get their new campaign under way on Saturday evening as newly-promoted Leeds visit Anfield for a clash of champions vs champions.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side will prove a challenge for the Reds on their back of their excellent Championship campaign, and Durham believes there will be many challenges for Liverpool this season.

“They may even struggle to finish second,” began Durham’s incredible claim on Drive.
“No recruitment, Klopp moaning, terrible end to the season, and they will be deflated for not hitting 100 points at the end of last season and how that post-lockdown form went.
“Bielsa said that Anfield is not the same without the fans, and having been to Anfield last season when it was full of fans, and again when there were no fans in there, I can tell you there is a massive difference – more so than at any other Premier League ground I experienced after lockdown.
“When I say Liverpool might struggle to finish second, I even think Liverpool could well finish below Manchester United this season.
“Last season was a monumental season for Liverpool, but it fizzled out after they won the title. I think they’ll be deflated.
“Liverpool won’t win the title and they may even finish below Manchester United.”
Well Adrian, that sure is a bold claim – and you may struggle to find many football fans who agree with you!
But there’s no doubt the masses will be tuned into talkSPORT at 5:30pm on Saturday for GameDay as we bring you full LIVE commentary of Liverpool vs Leeds on the opening day of the new Premier League season!
