Havertz has had glowing reports from his early training sessions with Chelsea

And the Daily Mail say Havertz will ‘almost certainly’ start against the Seagulls when Chelsea begin their 2020/21 campaign next Monday.

The report adds that fellow summer signing Ben Chilwell will not be ready to make his debut at the Amex, however, as he continues to recover from a heel injury.

Havertz began training with his new teammates on Saturday less than 24 hours after putting pen to paper on a five-year deal at Stamford Bridge.

The 21-year-old is seen as one of the very best young talents in Europe after dazzling for Bayer Leverkusen last term with 12 goals and six assists in 30 Bundesliga outings.

Meanwhile, Chelsea are on the verge of wrapping up a deal for Rennes goalkeeper Edouard Mendy.

The Blues are set to make the 28-year-old their seventh summer signing for around £18m, taking their outlay in this window to close to £250m.

But Frank Lampard also wants a new defensive midfielder, amid doubts over N’Golo Kante’s future at Stamford Bridge.

According to The Athletic, West Ham’s Declan Rice is firmly on the Blues’ radar.

Lampard is also said to be eyeing Lille’s Boubakary Soumare as an option for that position having had the 21-year-old watched last season.
