Jon Jones sparks rumours of Brock Lesnar UFC return after WWE contract expires and merchandise removed to set up heavyweight super fight
Jon Jones has suggested a return to mixed martial arts is on the cards for Brock Lesnar by confidently declaring he’d beat him.
Lesnar is now a free agent having failed to agree a contract extension with the WWE – fuelling rumours of a UFC comeback where he has not competed since 2016.
WWE boss Vince McMahon had spoken to the 43-year-old about continuing, however, Lesnar merchandise has been removed from the company’s website which appears to signal a parting of ways.
Lesnar’s last match was at WrestleMania 36 when he lost the WWE title to Drew McIntyre.
And Jones is ready to welcome the former heavyweight champion back to the octagon, while making a case for himself to fight Stipe Miocic for the title instead of Francis Ngannou.
“Brock I’ll beatcho ass too,” he tweeted.
Wrestling legend Kurt Angle claimed last year Lesnar would be interested in that fight.
Speaking to ESPN, he said: “I know he said that he’s retired.
“The one fight he wants, and I don’t know if it’s ever going to happen, but he wants to go up against Jon Jones.”
Jones, who recently vacated the UFC light heavyweight title ahead of a move up to heavyweight, responded to Angle’s comments by telling him he thought Lesnar was too slow.
Lesnar’s last UFC fight, a win against Mark Hunt, was overturned due to a failed drug test.
It appeared he would come back in 2018 when Daniel Cormier, who beat Miocic to become the champion, called him out.
A fight never materialised and he re-signed with WWE where until recently earned a reported £8m-a-year.
Another option for Lesnar is to negotiate a deal with Tony Khan’s All-Elite Wrestling.
