Daniel Cormier admits he got paid $1M for LOSING to Jon Jones in 2015 as Cris Cyborg lashes out in response

Daniel Cormier was slammed by former UFC featherweight champion Cris Cyborg for admitting he was paid $1million after LOSING to Jon Jones.

The former light-heavyweight and heavyweight champion officially confirmed his retirement from the sport earlier this week, with his final fight being a defeat to Stipe Miocic, ending his seven-year stint with the company.

Although he may have fallen short in several of his biggest battles, Cormier is renowned as being one of the most genuine people to have worked for Dana White and co.

In 2015, he suffered defeat to bitter rival Jon Jones for the first time in his career, yet revealed on ‘DC and Helwani on ESPN’ he was still compensated handsomely.

He said: “After I had lost to [Jon Jones], [former CEO] Lorenzo Fertitta gave me a million dollars. Him and Dana gave me a million dollars. They actually called me and said, ‘We are going to give you a million dollars ‘DC’ for the job that you’ve done.’”

He added: “You know what happened after I fought ‘Rumble Johnson [in 2015]?’ I won the belt, I got paid $300k and the PPV sold $300k… They gave me $400k to make sure that I made a million dollars.

“So when people talk about ‘You’re a white knight for the UFC, why wouldn’t I be? They changed my life.’”

Yet not everyone is as happy for ‘DC’ as you may expect; it transpires the policy of ‘sharing is caring’ is not universal.

Former featherweight champion Cyborg, who now plies her trade with Bellator, took aim at Cormier on Twitter before hastily deleting the Tweet.

She wrote: “When (UFC) moved (UFC 232) from NV to CA 4 days notice they refused to compensated me for paid appearances I could no longer attend in Vegas. (UFC 240) they refused to buy my flights TO THE FIGHT because I did camp in (South Africa) I was the ppv Co main event (Daniel Cormier) you’re paid to shill.”

A shill is literally defined as ‘an accomplice of a confidence trickster or swindler who poses as a genuine customer to entice or encourage others.’

While few would argue the 41-year-old has earned every penny from his UFC career the hard way, it seems as though his revelation at a time when fighter pay dispute is so hotly contested may upset some disgruntled employees.
