And Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano claims the transfer is a ‘done deal’.

He said: “Paperwork is also signed between Real Madrid and Arsenal for Dani Ceballos. #AFC are gonna cover his full salary until June 2021.”

Ceballos, 24, was a regular starter towards the end of the 2019/20 season under Mikel Arteta and played the full 90 minutes as Arsenal beat Chelsea 2-1 to win a 14th FA Cup last month.

He will become the third signing made by Arsenal this summer, following permanent deals for Willian [free transfer] and Gabriel [£27million].

Ceballos had been linked with a return to Real Betis, the club he left for Real Madrid in a deal worth around £16million in 2017.

However, the Spain international has opted to link up once more with Arteta.

In July, Ceballos hailed the Arsenal boss’ impact on his career.

He said: “The mister [Arteta] is living the game constantly. We know it’s a plus for us to have someone next to the pitch who can see things we can’t see at certain moments, and he can communicate with us much quicker now that there is nobody in the stadium.

“He is using me in a position which is unusual for me, as a pivot in front of the defence next to Granit [Xhaka], so I think it’s good that he is helping.

“Someone who is looking at the pitch from the outside can see all 22 players and give better advice about the best positions to be in.

“I’ve felt very comfortable at this club from the beginning.

“The fans accepted me very well and my teammates made everything easy for me. I don’t regret my decision to come to Arsenal in any way.”
