Brighton’s chief executive Paul Barber told talkSPORT: “Shane has been absolutely magnificent for us, literally from the day he joined.

“He is a massive character on the pitch, he is an even bigger character off the pitch. He is loved by everyone at the club.

“It is a difficult decision for Graham because there are so many centre-backs you can accommodate in one line-up, but Shane has been magnificent.

“We will be disappointed if we do lose him, but we also understand he wants to play football.”

Meanwhile, Leeds and Chelsea target Ben White is set to sign a new long-term deal at Brighton, talkSPORT understands.

Whites fans were desperate to see the 22-year-old back at Elland Road for their Premier League return on 12 September, having played an integral role in helping them get back to the top flight during his season-long loan.

But their hopes of seeing the defender in a Whites shirt again have been shattered with this latest news.
