Arsenal ‘offered chance to sign Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Alphonse Areola’ in summer transfer amid Emiliano Martinez links to Aston Villa
Arsenal could sign Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Alphonse Areola as a replacement for Emiliano Martinez, reports claim.
Aston Villa have submitted a second bid closer to the Gunners’ £20million valuation of Martinez, but Mikel Arteta will not let him leave without bringing in another shot-stopper.
Brentford’s David Raya, who helped his side reach the Championship play-off final last season, has been linked with a move to the Emirates.
But the Evening Standard claim Arsenal have been offered the chance to sign Areola on loan from PSG.
The France international spent the 2019/20 campaign on loan at Real Madrid, but made just nine appearances due to the form of Los Blancos’ No.1 Thibaut Courtois.
Fulham are believed to be in talks to sign Areola ahead of their first game back following their return to the Premier League after a season away.
Meanwhile, Arteta has a big decision to make over who starts in goal for Arsenal’s opening day Premier League clash vs the Cottagers on Saturday.

Martinez impressed in the Gunners’ final 11 matches while covering for the injured Bernd Leno as the club won a record 14th FA Cup.
But Leno, a £19.3m arrival from Bayer Leverkusen in 2018, was one of Arsenal’s top performers before suffering a knee injury against Brighton in June.
Martinez has warned Arsenal he will leave unless he is playing regular first-team football, something Villa could offer him.
Dean Smith’s side are in the market for a goalkeeper as Tom Heaton is sidelined with a knee injury and Pepe Reina has departed following the end of his loan spell.
