Premier League stadiums set to welcome back supporters from October… but away fans will be BANNED until next season
Away fans are unlikely to return to Premier League matches in the upcoming 2020/21 season, despite stadiums due to reopen for supporters from October 3.
All matches have taken place behind closed doors since football resumed from its coronavirus hiatus, but Government guidelines continue to suggest at the possible return of fans to stadiums in slightly over a month.
Clubs are preparing for this possibility, but they are well aware stadiums will have to open with a reduced capacity to ensure social distancing rules are adhered to.
With a one-metre social distancing rule in place, data suggests that just 20,590 people will be allowed inside Manchester United’s Old Trafford, the largest stadium in the Premier League.
Turf Moor, Burnley’s home stadium, normally sits 21,401 people at maximum capacity – but with social distancing only 5,820 fans will be allowed in.
Due to these restrictions, Premier League clubs are set to prioritise season ticket holders being allowed into their stadiums.
