Jeff Hendrick is set to sign for Newcastle United on a free transfer, talkSPORT sources understand.


The 28-year-old left Burnley after his contract at Turf Moor expired on June 30 – he did not extend to see out the season.

As a result, he became a free agent and attracted interest from a number of clubs.


talkSPORT understands that St James’ Park will be his destination, with a deal set to be finalised by the end of this weekend.


The Republic of Ireland international made over 120 Premier League appearances for Burnley following a 2016 move from Derby.


He scored nine goals in that time, and helped solidify the club in England’s top division.

“It’s been a good few years with some memorable results. Finishing 7th with a little club like Burnley as they say was something else.


“The crowd noise don’t go unnoticed and it really helps push the lads on so keep it up.
