Manchester United ‘serious’ about signing Bournemouth star David Brooks as Jadon Sancho alternative

Manchester United are interested in signing Bournemouth star David Brooks as an alternative to Jadon Sancho, reports claim.

The Borussia Dortmund forward, 20, has been heavily linked with a £108million summer move to Old Trafford, but a deal is yet to be agreed.

Subsequently, Sport Witness claim United are ‘serious’ about bringing in Brooks, who also plays as a right winger.

The Welshman scored just once in nine appearances after returning from a serious ankle injury as Bournemouth’s five-year stint in the Premier League came to an end last month.

However, Brooks showed his quality in his debut top-flight campaign the prior season, scoring seven goals and registering five assists in 30 matches.

The report adds that signing Brooks would be an ‘easier’ deal than Sancho.

The 23-year-old, who has also been linked with Tottenham and Liverpool, joined Bournemouth for £11.5m from Sheffield United in 2018.

Dortmund have made it clear they will not lower their valuation of Sancho, who left Man City for Germany in an £8m deal three years ago.

Last week, Sancho appeared to hint he was staying at Dortmund for the upcoming season.

He said: “I love playing with this lot. It is a special bunch.

“We’ve got some special young players coming up. I am really happy to share the pitch with them and guide them.

“I was once in their shoes, playing with the seniors. I am happy for them.

“I joined when I was 17. Some of the lads are the same age.

“I’ve been there and done that. I can guide them in what’s good and what isn’t. I can hopefully motivate them as well.”
