Leonardo Bonucci ‘turns down’ Man City transfer to stay and work with former teammate Andrea Pirlo at Juventus
Juventus veteran Leonardo Bonucci has reportedly rejected the chance to join Manchester City this summer.
According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Pep Guardiola is believed to be a big admirer of the 33-year-old but City have been unsuccessful in their bid to bring the Italian to the Etihad.
The report adds that the Juve ace was ‘flattered’ by Guardiola’s interest but has decided to stay at Juve to work with new boss and former teammate Andrea Pirlo, who is attempting to oversee the start of a successful rebuild period in Turin.
Bonucci has made over 400 appearances for the Bianconeri and won eight titles with them.
City have already sealed the signing of Nathan Ake from Bournemouth in a £41million deal, but another defender is being targeted as Guardiola seeks to once again win the Premier League title in the 2020/21 season.
Another defender who has been strongly linked with a move to the club is Napoli ace Kalidou Koulibaly, and talkSPORT’s transfer expert Alex Crook explained that Etihad chiefs could offer youngster Eric Garcia in a swap deal to bring him to him to the club.
“[Koulibaly is] one of those players who comes up time and again at this time of year, but never quite seems to get the move,” Crook said on Wednesday’s White and Sawyer show.
“We know Manchester City are really keen, having already signed Nathan Ake, to get Koulibaly to the Etihad, and there could be some kind of part exchange in the offing.
“Eric Garcia is very much on Napoli’s list to replace Koulibaly – maybe he will welcome the move. He only played 13 games in the Premier League.
