Leeds star and Liverpool fan Stuart Dallas on ‘dream’ Premier League opening day fixture and working under ‘perfectionist’ Marcelo Bielsa

Stuart Dallas says it will be ‘a dream come true’ to play against Liverpool on the opening day of the 2020/21 Premier League season.

The new top-flight campaign kicks off on September 12 and will see newly-promoted Leeds travel to Jurgen Klopp’s reigning champions for a stunning first day clash.

Dallas is a boyhood Liverpool fan and will finally get his chance to grace the Anfield turf in a Leeds shirt next month.

He told talkSPORT: “I grew up supporting Liverpool; it was because my dad was a Liverpool fan.

“I’ve been to watch them quite a number of times. Not so much in recent years, but it’ll be nice to come up against them.

“It’s always been a dream of mine to play at the highest level and obviously to get the chance to play against them at Anfield.

“With them being champions as well, it’s a dream come true for me.

“We’ve been waiting for this day for the last few weeks. Everybody has been looking forward to it.

“Now the fixtures are out, it’s exciting times. There is no better game to get us going than champions vs champions.

“We know how hard it’s going to be and it’s something we’re looking forward to.”

Marcelo Bielsa masterminded Leeds’ return to the Premier League after a 16-year absence by finishing top of the Championship last month.

Dallas has been a regular starter under the Argentine, who has used him as a full-back, a winger and in central midfield.

The 29-year-old, who arrived at Elland Road in 2015, was full of praise for the popular manager.

“He doesn’t like to get too close to the players,” added Dallas. “That’s a good thing, it seems to get the best out of the group.

“He’s an ambitious man and I can only describe him as a perfectionist. That’s what he strives to be every day and that’s what he’s tried to instil in us.

“We’ve really brought in to what he’s wanted to do over the last couple of years. I think obviously this year, in the last few weeks, we’ve reaped the rewards for that.

“It’s exciting times to have him at the club. He’s somebody we all love working with.”
