Kai Havertz ‘pushing’ for Chelsea transfer but Premier League club still £18m apart from Bayer Leverkusen valuation
Kai Havertz is ‘pushing’ to complete a move to Chelsea, but Bayer Leverkusen are not budging on their valuation of the German wonderkid which the Blues are still yet to meet.
Chelsea are favourites to land the in-demand attacker this summer but the clubs are still locked in negotiations over a fee.
The English and German sides had their latest meeting on Monday as they attempted to finally get a deal over the line after weeks of talks.
But, according to reports in Italy, the clubs are still a fair distance away from coming to an agreement.
Italian football journalist and transfer insider Fabrizio Romano has claimed there is a distance of £17.8million [(20m) between Chelsea’s first bid and Bayer’s price tag – reported to be around £90m.
Havertz is very keen to make the move, however, as confirmed by Bayer CEO Fernando Carro last week, and is said to be ‘pushing’ for the transfer to happen.
The 21-year-old , who scored 18 goals and provided nine assists in all competitions last season, has even reportedly agreed personal terms on a five-year deal with the Premier League giants.
But it appears Chelsea may have to pull their finger out and get it done quickly, with reports that they have ten days to complete the transfer before Bayer begin their preparations for the new Bundesliga season – similar to the deadline Borussia Dortmund gave to Manchester United for Jadon Sancho.
Havertz is a priority signing for Frank Lampard, who sees the German youngster as a future superstar for the Blues.
But, with the west London club reportedly hoping to do a deal closer to £70m, they have been warned Bayer will not accept a ‘coronavirus discount’ on their prize asset.
“The situation is quite simple, he has a two-year contract, if anyone wants him on our terms, fine, otherwise he stays here another year and we are happy,” Bayer’s sporting director Rudi Voller has said.
“It won’t be easy, but for an artist like him there is no COVID discount.”
