talkSPORT.com rounds up all the latest transfer news and football gossip from Tuesday’s papers and online…
Liverpool and Chelsea were handed a boost in their pursuit of Timo Werner as RB Leipzig’s manager conceded it is getting harder to convince him to stay. The striker has been on fire for Leipzig and took his goal tally for the season to 25 on Monday night in Leipzig’s 4-2 win over Koln. Manager Julian Nagelsmann admitted it would do no good if he kept telling Werner to stay. FULL STORY
Chelsea are said to be keeping tabs on Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s situation at Arsenal and could be ready to pounce. The striker will soon enter the final year of his contract at the Emirates and the Gunners could be forced to sell him this summer rather than risk losing him for free next year. London rivals Chelsea are said to be monitoring the situation and could make an offer in the summer with Arsenal yet to offer Aubameyang a new deal. FULL STORY
Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl has signed a new contract with the Premier League club. The 52-year-old put pen to paper on a new four-year deal keeping him at St Mary’s until 2024. The Austrian succeeded Mark Hughes as Saints boss in December 2018. FULL STORY
Manchester United have emerged as shock contenders to sign Raheem Sterling if he were to become available. The 25-year-old may want to leave Man City if their two-year Champions League ban is upheld. As the table currently stands, United would take City’s place in the competition. Real Madrid are also said to be interested in Sterling should he soon be on the market. (Independent)
Lionel Messi will not be leaving Barcelona for nothing this summer after the clause in his contract expired. There had been speculation the six-time Ballon d’Or winner could walk away from the Nou Camp, particularly after voicing concerns about some decisions and actions being made by the club. (Standard)
Real Madrid have turned down the chance to sign Willian on a free transfer. The 31-year-old’s contract at Chelsea expires this summer and he is set to become a free agent. Talks over a contract extension have broken down with the Blues unwilling to match Willian’s demands for a new deal. The Brazil international will not be joining Real Madrid, though. (Mirror)
Manchester United will pay a staggering £10.5million to keep Odion Ighalo at the club until January. The striker’s loan deal was due to expire at the end of May but the Red Devils reached an agreement to keep him for another six months. The deal will see them pay £6m to Shanghai Shenhua and also pay Ighalo £130,000-a-week in wages. (Mail)
Arsenal are ready to offer David Luiz a new one-year contract at the club. The 33-year-old only joined the Gunners from Chelsea last summer but signed just a one-year deal at the time. Reports had suggested he will be allowed to leave the Emirates but he could be given a new contract. If so, there is likely to be a reduction in his £130,000-a-week wages. (Mirror)
